Ballet Music for the Opera

Opera and ballet have a long history together. In the nineteenth century, a grand opera at the Paris Opera was unthinkable without a ballet, whether the plot was an occasion for dancing or not. Dancing has been used in opera from other countries, Italy, Spain, and Russia.

On this week's Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will hear some of the catchy melodies that have graced the opera stage.
