Bach's Suites for Unaccompanied Cello were once thought to be only technical exercises, until Pablo Casals showed what emotional heights and depths they contained. On the other hand, the solo Sonatas and Partitas for Violin have long been favorites for violinists, and Nathan Milstein has been one of the outstanding interpreters of them. On Saturday at 11, we will hear outstanding solo string playing from these two masters of their instruments.
