String quartets from the ‘50s

Chamber music fans are a minority among classical music listeners, but they are devoted, if not fanatical, devotees of the various types of intimate music making. After the introduction of the LP record in the late 1940s, the number of string quartet groups on records proliferated. Some groups, such as the Pascal Quartet, are largely forgotten; other groups such as the Fine Arts Quartet, are still with us. We will sample some recordings from the 1950s.
