Pianist Inon Barnatan plays the Bach Keyboard Concerto #7 in Santa Fe

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert Inon Barnatan plays Bach’s “G Minor Keyboard  Concerto” on the “The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”.  Also on the program….. Bartok’s 1st Violin Sonata. At 8:00 it’s “Center Stage from Wolf Trap” featuring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass playing works by Copland, and Eric Ewazen.

Emanuel Ax plays Haydn’s 11th Piano Concerto in New York

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert Emanuel Ax is the piano soloist in Haydn’s 11th Piano Concerto with the New York Philharmonic. Alan Gilbert conducts.  Also on the program, conductor Gilbert’s arrangement of Erich Leinsdorf’s symphonic study on Wagner, “A Ring Journey” and the New York premiere of Christopher Rouse’s “3rd Symphony”.

Beethoven Fest in Bonn! Symphonies 5 and 8

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it’s the fourth of the  “Beethoven Fest in Bonn” programs from Deutsche Welle Radio.  Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in Beethoven’s 5th and 8th Symphonies in performance in the Beethoven Hall, Bonn.  Also on the program, Steven Stucky’s “Radical Light for Orchestra”.

This week on the Evening Concert we’ll have Beethoven’s 5th and 8th Symphonies from Deutsche Welle Radio, then Emanuel Ax is the piano soloist in Haydn’s 11th Piano Concerto from New York; Wednesday pianist Inon Barnatan plays Bach’s “G Minor Keyboard  Concerto” in Santa Fe, then Thursday it’s part two of our two-part ‘special’ on conductor Erich Leinsdorf. Friday it’s "Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper".

Special: Erich Leinsdorf: Perfectionist, Pioneer, Pedagogue. (Part 1 of 2)

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert it’s the first of a two-part special on conductor Erich Leinsdorf.  We’ll hear Maestro Leinsdorf speak about his interpretation of the repertoire for which he became celebrated and revered, like Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”,  Mahler’s 1st Symphony and Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” . The special is called “Erich Leinsdorf: Perfectionist, Pioneer, Pedagogue, Part 1 of 2”.

Clarinetist Chen Halevi in World Premiere

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it’s “The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”.  On the program….. Clarinetist Chen Halevi is joined by composer/pianist Magnus Lindberg in  his Acequia Madre, a World Premiere Commission from the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Also on the program, Schubert’s famous “Quintet for Piano and Strings”: the “Trout Quintet”. At 8:00 it’s “Center Stage from Wolf Trap”.  On the program…..Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings” performed by the East Coast Chamber Orchestra .

Trevor Pinnock conducts the CSO in 2 works for 3 soloists

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert Trevor Pinnock leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 2 works for 3 soloists: Beethoven’s “Triple Concerto” and Mozart’s Concerto for 3 Pianos, K. 242.  Also on the program, Mendelssohn’s 3rd Symphony, the “Scottish”.

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it’s the third “Beethoven Fest in Bonn” program from Deutsche Welle Radio.  Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in Beethoven’s 4th and 6th Symphonies in performance in the Beethoven Hall, Bonn.  Also on the program, Joseph Phibbs’ 2012 composition “Rivers to the Sea”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert  Emanuel Ax is the piano soloist in Beethoven’s “4th Piano Concerto” with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.  The program differs from the one in our program guide, Patterns Magazine.  Also on the program, Haydn’s “Surprise” Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s “Pathetique” Symphony.
