Pianist Leif Ove Andnes plays Chopin and Liszt in Edinburgh

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert it’s the last of our four-part series “Edinburgh Festivals: Year of Creative Scotland”.  Pianist Leif Ove Adnsnes is featured in works by Chopin and Liszt.  Les Vent Francais plays Mihaud’s Quintet “The Fireplace of King Rene” and bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni sings Schubert’s “An Die Musik”.

String Quartets by Ravel and Beethoven on the Evening Concert

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert the Tokyo String Quartet plays Ravel’s “String Quartet in F Major” and Inon Barnatan plays Bach’s 5th Keyboard Concerto in Santa Fe.  At 8:00 it’s “Center Stage from Wolf Trap” with the Jerusalem String Quartet playing Beethoven’s 2nd String Quartet.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra Peforms Shakespeare-Themed Works

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert Sir Mark Elder leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a program of Shakespeare-themed works like Elgar’s “Falstaff: A Symphonic Study” and Tchaikovsky’s famous “Romeo and Juliet fantasy Overture”.  . Also on the program, Delius’ “Walk to the Paradise Garden” and Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from ‘West Side Story’”.

Schumann’s Piano Concerto & Mahler’s 1st Symphony

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert it’s the “Rheingau Music Festival” from Deutsche Welle Radio.  Paavo Jarvi conducts the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s “1st Symphony.”  Also on the program, Schumann’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor” with soloist Khatia Buniatishvili and “Clouds” by contemporary German composer Peter Ruzicka.

The Evening Concert for August 19 -23, 2013

This week on the Evening Concert it’s Mahler’s “1st Symphony” from the Rheingau Music Festival, then Sir Mark Elder conducts the CSO in a program of Shakespeare-inspired works; Wednesday the Tokyo String Quartet plays Ravel’s “String Quartet in F Major” in Santa Fe, then Thursday music of Chopin on the last of the “Edinburgh Festivals”. Friday it’s "Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper".

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert it's the third of our four-part series "Edinburgh Festivals: Year of Creative Scotland". Violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Nikolai Lugansky play Brahms' "1st Violin Sonata"; pianist Daniil Trifonov plays the "Images" of Debussy and Stravinsky's "Three Dances From 'The Firebird'".

Clarinetist Chen Halevi Plays Bartok’s “Contrasts”

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it's the "Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival" with the "Piano Trio No. 2" of Brahms. Also on the program, clarinetist Chen Halevi plays Bartok's "Contrasts".  At 8:00 it's "Center Stage from Wolf Trap" with the CSO Brass Quintet playing Gershwin and violinist Rachel Barton Pine playing Gershwin, too.

Violinist Nikolaj Znaider plays Nielsen’s “Violin Concerto”

Tonight at 7:00 on The Evening Concert violinist Nikolaj Znaider  is the soloist in Nielsen’s “Violin Concerto” with the New York Philharmonic. Alan Gilbert conducts. Also on the program, Nielsen’s “Flute Concerto” with Principal Flutist Robert Langevin as the soloist,  and Tchaikovsky’s “2nd Symphony, the “Little Russian”.

Salzburg Festival from Deutsche Welle Radio

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert it’s “Salzburg Festival” from Deutsche Welle Radio. Renaud Capucon is the violin soloist in Mozart’s “4th Violin Concerto”.  He performs with the Mozarteum Orchestra led by Ivor Bolton. Also on the program, a Divertimento and Rondo by Mozart, Haydn’s 103rd Symphony and music of the “Spanish Mozart” Juan Arriaga.
