The Evening Concert

Monday night August 29 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. You’ll hear Mozart’s “Bassoon Concerto” with soloist Judith LeClair, and a “Piccolo Concerto” by Vivaldi.  Also on the program Hindemith’s “Mathis der Maler” Symphony and Paine’s “2nd Symphony”.

Sunday night August 28 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Beethoven’s “Serenade for Flute, Violin, and Viola” on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear classical music performed by the Prietos on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night August 25 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s a “Deutsche Welle Festival Concert”. From the 2021 Heimbach Chamber Music Festival you’ll hear Brahms’ “1st String Quartet”.  Also on the program, Enescu’s “3rd Violin Sonata and selections from Vaughan Williams’ “On Wenlock Edge”.

Wednesday night August 24 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Los Angeles Philharmonic”.  Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the Philharmonic in Sibelius’ “7th Symphony”.  Also on the program Bartok’s “Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celeste” and Bjarnason’s “Feast” featuring pianist Vikingur Olafsson.

Tuesday night August 23 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  You’ll hear Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite” and “Noble and Sentimental Waltzes”. Also on the program Debussy “La Mer” (The Sea) and Ligeti’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Robert Chen.

Monday night August 22 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. The featured work is Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” conducted by Kurt Masur.  Also on the program Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E Minor” with soloist Nathan Milstein, and Prokofiev’s “Classical” Symphony.

Sunday night August 21 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Stravinsky’s “L’Histoire du Soldat” (The Soldier’s Tale) on the “Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear “Danzón: The Music of Arturo Marquez” on “Fiesta”.

Thursday night August 18 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s a “Deutsche Welle Festival Concert”. The mythological Prometheus is the subject, and you’ll hear Liszt’s “Prometheus” symphonic poem and Scriabin’s “Prometheus” for piano, organ and orchestra. Also on the program, Cameron Carpenter’s “The Scandal”.

Wednesday night August 17 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Los Angeles Philharmonic”.  Guest conductor Elim Chan leads the Philharmonic in Beethoven’s “3rd Piano Concerto” featuring soloist Igor Levit.  Also on the program Mendelssohn’s “4th Symphony”, the “Italian” and Elizabeth Ogonek’s “Cloudline”.  

Tuesday night August 16 at 7:00 on the Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”.  Herbert Blomstedt guest conducts the CSO in Mozart’s “23rd Piano Concerto” with soloist Bertrand Chamayou. Also on the program Brahms’ “2nd Symphony”.
