The program features two symphonies: Brahm's 2nd, written in one of the more joyful times of his life, the summer of 1877, and the 1st Symphony of American composer John Corigliano's whose creation was, in the composer's words, "generated by feelings of loss, anger and frustration."
Tonight at 7:00 on "The Evening Concert" on WILL-FM, Yuja Wang is the soloist in Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Sakari Oramo guest conducts. Also on the program Nielsen's 5th Symphony and Australian composer Brett Dean's "Ampitheater".

Antonio Pappano conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the National Academy of St. Cecilia, plus vocal soloists Anna Netrebko, Ian Bostridge and Thomas Hampson in Britten’s “War Requiem” Also on the program, the Vienna Philharmonic with Schubert’s 3rd Symphony.
Monday night at 7:00 on “The Evening Concert” on WILL-FM it’s Schubert’s “3rd” from “Salzburg Festival 2013”, then Tuesday, Nielsen’s “5th” from Chicago; Wednesday it’s Brahms’ 2nd Symphony from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Thursday, “The New York Philharmonic This Week”; Friday, “Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper" and Sunday, “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”.
Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL-FM, it’s “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center” with a program of “French Favorites”. Violinists Kyu-Young Kim and Min-Young Kim are featured in Debussy’s only “String Quartet”. Also on the program Pianist Gilles Vonsattel is featured in Ravel’s only Piano Trio.
Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM … it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Peter Serkin plays Bartok's 3rd Piano Concerto with the group. Pablo Heras-Casado guest conducts. Also on the program Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes” (from his opera “Peter Grimes”) and Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony.
Tonight at 7:00 on “The Evening Concert” on WILL-FM, Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in two Tchaikovsky Symphonies: the “First” in G minor, “Winter Dreams”, and the “Last”, the “Pathetique” whose premiere was conducted by Tchaikovsky in St. Petersburg nine days before his death in 1893.
Tonight at 7:00 on WILL-FM’s, “Evening Concert” Nicholas McGegan guest conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a program of 18th Century works, like a “Concerto Grosso” by Handel, a “Sinfonia” by J. C. Bach and arias by Vivaldi, Hasse, and Porpora featuring mezzo soprano Vivica Genaux. Also on the program: Haydn’s 100th “Symphony”.
Tonight at 7:00 on “The Evening Concert” on WILL-FM it’s “Salzburg Festival 2013”. Ivor Bolton conducts the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra in Haydn’s “London” Symphony. Also on the program, Daniele Gatti conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Concert Chorus, and vocal soloists in selections from Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg the only comedy among his mature operas.
