The Evening Concert

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “Collectors’ Corner with Henry Fogel” with another program in a series of recordings by the Berlin Philharmonic led by Wilhelm Furtwängler. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Erich Röhn, Brahms “4th Symphony”, and Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Cleveland Orchestra. You’ll hear selections from the 2019 Cooper International Violin Competition. Shihan Wang plays Mendelssohn’s “E Minor Violin Concerto”. Also on the program, Eric Charles Chen plays Prokofiev’s “2nd Violin Concerto” and Isabella Brown plays the Dvorak “Violin Concerto”.  

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. Matthew Halls conducts a complete performance of Handel’s “Messiah”. The vocal soloists are Amanda Forsyth, Sasha Cooke, Nicholas Phan, and Joshua Hopkins with the CSO Orchestra and Chorus.  The program differs from the one listed in Patterns Magazine.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” with an encore program from the archives. Garrick Ohlsson is the soloist in Martinǔ’s “4th Piano Concerto”.  Also on the program, Sibelius’ “1st Symphony” and Haydn’s “95th Symphony”.

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Sibelius’ “1st Symphony” from New York, Handel’s “Messiah” from Chicago, Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto” from Cleveland, Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto” on “Collectors Corner” then Sunday Prokofiev’s “2nd String Quartet” from Lincoln Center and an episode of “Early Music Now”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear a chamber sized version of Copland’s “Appalachian Spring Suite” on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear “Masterworks from the Dürben Collection on “Early Music Now with Sara Schneider”.

You’ll hear Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story””,  Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture” , Ives’ “The Unanswered Question”  and selections from John Williams’ score to the movie “Lincoln”.  The program differs from the one listed in Patterns Magazine.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Julia Fischer is the soloist in Mozart’s “5th Violin Concerto”, the “Turkish”.  Lorin Maazel conducts.  Also on the program, Dvorak’s “Carnival Overture” and Brahms’ “1st Symphony”.
