The Evening Concert

Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on FM 90.9 it’s the “Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcast”. In a program from the CSO archives Daniel Barenboim leads the group in Wagner’s “Overture to ‘The Flying Dutchman’”, Schoenberg’s “Transfigured Night”, and Bruckner’s “4th Symphony”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. The program starts with Wagenaar’s “Cyrano de Bergerac” Overture. Music Director Jaap van Zweden conducts. Then Simone Lamsma is the soloist in Britten’s “Violin Concerto” followed by Beethoven’s “5th Symphony”.

This week on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Beethoven’s “5th Symphony”  from New York, Bruckner’s “4th  Symphony” from Chicago, Brahms’ “1st Piano Concerto” from Cleveland, a “Collectors’ Corner” program on Wilhelm Furtwangler, then Sunday Saint-Saens’ “1st Violin Sonata” from Lincoln Center and an episode of “Early Music Now”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 you’ll hear Beethoven’s “Piano Trio No. 3 in C Minor” on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center”. At 8:00 you’ll hear music written in celebration of Roman Catholic saints on “Early Music Now with Sara Schneider”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s “Collectors’ Corner with Henry Fogel”.  Tonight is the first in a series of programs of Berlin Philharmonic releases of broadcasts featuring conductor Wilhelm Fürtwangler. You’ll hear Beethoven’s “7th Symphony”, Strauss’ “Don Juan” and Wagner’s “Prelude to Der Meistersinger”.

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the Cleveland Orchestra in a program from their archives. George Szell leads the group in Weber's “Oberon Overture”, Mozart’s “Symphony No. 40 in G Minor” and Beethoven’s “3rd Symphony”, the “Eroica”.

Jennifer Gunn is the piccolo soloist in Vivaldi’s RV 444 “Piccolo Concerto” and Benshoof’s “Concerto for Piccolo”.
