This week on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 we present holiday specials:  The St. Olaf Christmas Festival, Paul Winter’s 35th Annual Winter Solstice Concert, the Concierto Christmas Special, Jonathan Winters’ ‘A Christmas Carol’, Festivo Alt.Latino’s New York Style Christmas then Sunday a return to chamber music from Lincoln Center and Santa Fe .

Monday December 21: Holiday Special:

St. Olaf’s Christmas Festival

A service in song and word that has become one of the nation's most cherished holiday celebrations. The festival includes hymns, carols, choral works, and orchestral selections celebrating the Nativity and featuring more than 500 student musicians in five choirs and the St. Olaf Orchestra.

 

Tuesday December 22: Holiday Special:

Paul Winter’s 35th Annual Winter Solstice Concert

Celebrate the Return of the Sun - and the Warming of the Earth with an exuberant Feast of Sound; an all new performance, from the Paul Winter Consort with Paul McCandless, gospel singer Theresa Thomason, Danny Rivera -- the "National Voice of Puerto Rico”, and Abdel Salaam's Forces of Nature percussion and dance ensemble.  

 

Wednesday December 23: Holiday Special:

Concierto Christmas Special

This is a special holiday edition of the national bi-lingual program that features music by Spanish and Latin American composers and performers presented in English and in Spanish. This edition features traditional Spanish language villancicos from 18th century Cuba, 19th century Uruguay, and 17th century Ecuador.

An updated version of a public radio tradition hosted by NPR's Susan Stamberg. Master comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive reading of Dickens' holiday classic, with a special performing edition prepared by Dickens for his own presentations; Feat. Mimi Kennedy.

Festivo Alt.Latino New York Style Christmas

NPR Music’s Alt.Latino presents the 4th edition of Festivo Alt.Latino - a special holiday concert taped in front of a live audience in New York City. Hear Latin Soul, Mariachi like you’ve never heard before plus some of the best Latin alternative singer songwriters playing today. Hosted by Felix Contreras and Jasmine Garsd.
