Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos with a Twist

Tonight, tune in to hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, featuring Jonathan Biss as piano soloist in Mozart’s 16th Piano Concerto. Leonard Slatkin conducts. Also on the program: Mozart’s K.365 Concerto for Two Pianos, with a twist: Orli Shaham plays “Piano One” and three different players play one movement each of the “Second Piano” part.

Haydn and Dvorak Symphonies

Tonight, we present the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra led by guest conductor James Gaffigan. Concertmaster Frank Almond is the soloist in Glazunov’s Violin Concerto. Also on the program: symphonies by Haydn, his 26th, and by Dvorak, his 6th Symphony.

Cello Concertos

Tonight, we'll have the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Yo-Yo is the cello soloist in Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. Also on the program: a Cello Concerto by Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, which sounds good any time of year.

Wed., March 6: Early Beethoven Trios

Tonight, it’s The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center with two early trios by Beethoven. At 8 pm, it’s the 2012 Gilmore International Keyboard Festival with the “Gilmore for Kids” episode. The featured work is Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen or “Scenes From Childhood.”

Mon Mar 4, 2013: Tchaikovsky & Copland from Milwaukee

Tonight it's the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra led by music director Edo de Waart. On the program: two works by Tchaikovsky:  the Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and the Nutcracker Suite, which sounds good any time of year (!). Also on the program: Copland’s 3rd Symphony and music of Marc Neikrug: the Los Alamos Suite.

Tonight, it’s the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Charles Dutoit. Gil Shaham is the soloist in Sir William Walton’s Violin Concerto. Also on the program: Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, and Beethoven’s 7th Symphony.
