Beethovenfest in Bonn; Rouse World Premiere; Buniatishvili plays Rachmaninoff’s 2nd

This week [Monday, September 8, - Sunday, September 14, 2014] on the Evening Concert we start with the first of the “Beethovenfest in Bonn” programs from the Deustche Welle Festival Concerts, then it’s a World Premiere by Christopher Rouse from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Wednesday Khatia Buniatishvili plays Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano  Concerto with the San Francisco Symphony; Thursday it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” and Sunday, Chamber Music from Lincoln Center, plus The Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Dvorak “Carnival Overture” and Tchaikovsky’s “4th” on “The New York Philharmonic This Week”

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM, 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. The concert opens with Dvorak’s Carnival Overture and ends with  Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony. Also on the program just-retired-this-June, Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow plays Bartok’s 1st Violin Concerto with the group .

Tonight at 7:00 on WILL, FM-90.9 we present a special “Evening Concert”: “A Classical Labor Day”. I’m Vincent Trauth. Won’t you please join me for American patriotic works like Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and other pieces related to “work” of some kind, like Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus” and Mendelssohn’s “Venetian Gondola Songs”.

This week on the Evening Concert we start with “A Classical Labor Day” from Illinois Public Media, then Christian Tetzlaff plays Dvorak’s Violin Concerto with the CSO; Wednesday Jonathan Biss plays Schumann’s Piano  Concerto with the San Francisco Symphony; Thursday it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” and Sunday, Chamber Music from Lincoln Center.

The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival on “The New York Philharmonic This Week”

Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM, 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” with the third “Philharmonic Festival: The Beethoven Piano Concertos”.  Yefim Bronfman plays Beethoven’s “Emperor” Piano Concerto and is the pianist in the “Triple Concerto” with the New York Philharmonic. Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts.

Gautier Capucon Plays Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto” with the San Francisco Symphony

Tonight at 7:00 on "The Evening Concert" on WILL, FM-90.9 Gautier Capucon is the soloist in Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto” with the San Francisco Symphony. Juraj Valcuha guest conducts. Also on the program: Kodaly’s “Dances of Galanta” and Bartok’s “Suite from ‘The Wooden Prince’”, and an encore led by Music Director MTT (Michael Tilson Thomas), Varese's "Ameriques".
