This week [Monday, August 4, 2014 - Sunday, August 10, 2014] on the Evening Concert it’s the “Stuttgart Music Festival” . . . then Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Wednesday the San Francisco Symphony plays Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings”; Thursday Joyce Yang plays Rachmaninoff’s 1st Piano Concerto on “The New York Philharmonic This Week” and Sunday, Chamber Music from Lincoln Center and Santa Fe.
Tonight at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM, 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week” pianist Yefim Bronfman is the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s 1st Piano Concerto with the New York Philharmonic. Alan Gilbert conducts. Also on the program Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Ravel’s Alborado del gracioso. The program differs from the one listed in Patterns Magazine.
Tonight at 7:00 on "The Evening Concert" on WILL, FM-90.9 Concertmaster Alexander Barantschik conducts a chamber-sized San Francisco Symphony in Mozart’s “String Divertimento, K. 136”, and he’s the violinist in Bach’s A minor Violin Concerto, BWV 1041 and and Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe BWV 1060. Also on the program: Catherine Payne is the soloist in Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto RV443.
Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL FM-90.9, guest conductor Susanna Malkki conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a varied program that includes Debussy’s “La mer” (The Sea), Sibelius’ “Suite No. 1 from ‘The Tempest’”, and Thomas Ades’ ‘but all shall be well’. Also on the program Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto with soloist Leila Josefowicz.
Tonight at 7:00 on “The Evening Concert” on WILL, FM-90.9 it’s the “Wagner Anniversary Concert” from the Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts. Christian Thielemann conducts the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra in an all Wagner program recorded in the Bayreuth Festspeilhaus on the exact 200th birthday of the composer May 22nd 2013. The program includes music from “Tristan and Isolde”, “Gotterdammerung” and other music dramas. That’s the “Wagner Anniversary Concert” tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL, FM-90.9.

Tonight [Sunday night July 27, 2014] at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL, FM-90.9, it’s Brahms’ Four Songs for Voice Viola and Piano and Dvorak’s Op. 85 Piano Trio on “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center” followed by Schumann’s Op. 47 Piano Quartet from “The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival”.
Join us Thursday evening, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. for "The Evening Concert". Lorin Maazel passed away Sunday, July 13 at the age of 84. Maestro Maazel served as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic from 2002-2009 and was an important figure on and off the stage. To commemorate his legacy, WILL FM 90.9 will air the New York Philharmonic program that was originally aired on the occasion of Maazel’s 75th birthday on Thursday evening, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. The program features works composed and conducted by Maestro Maazel, with an incredible lineup of soloists.
Tonight at 7:00 on "The Evening Concert" on WILL, FM-90.9 Yefim Bronfman is the piano soloist in Beethoven’s “Emperor” Piano Concerto with the San Francisco Symphony. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducts. Also on the program: Strauss’ “Till Eulengspiegel’s Merry Pranks” and Mark Volkert’s “Pandora”.
Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL, FM-90.9, Mitsuko Uchida is the soloist in Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A Minor with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Music Director Riccardo Muti conducts. Also on the program, two of Schubert’s nine symphonies, the 3rd in D Major, and the 9th, the “Great” C Major Symphony.
