Beethoven’s 7th from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Tonight, it’s the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Charles Dutoit. Gil Shaham is the soloist in Sir William Walton’s Violin Concerto. Also on the program: Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, and Beethoven’s 7th Symphony.

Monday Feb 25: Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra: Rachmaninoff and Milhaud

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra led by music director Edo de Waart performs music of Rachmaninoff and Milhaud.  Joyce Yang is the piano soloist in Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto.  Also on the program: Milhaud’s La Creation du monde (The Creation of the World).

This week on the Evening Concert you’ll hear Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra; Beethoven’s 7th Symphony from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Then, it’s piano trios by Turina and Ravel from ‘The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’ and Mozart’s 22nd Piano Concerto from Pittsburgh. Friday night it’s “Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper”.

Tonight on the Evening Concert it's the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  Mariss Jansons guest conducts. Mozart: “Jupiter” Symphony (Symphony No. 41 in C). Richard Strauss: Dance of the Seven Veils from "Salome." Schubert: "Unfinished" Symphony in B minor.

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013: Schumann: 2nd String Quartet and “Carnival”

Tonight starting at 7:00 on The Evening Concert it’s ‘The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’ with Schumann’s 2nd String Quartet and a sextet by Mendelssohn. At 8:00 it’s the 2012 Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. Kirill Gerstein plays Schumann’s “Carnival” plus there’s music of Bartok and Chopin as well.
