Fiesta! is back!

What is Fiesta!?

Fiesta! is an original production of WFMT devoted to Latino concert music that brings artistically significant compositions from Latin America, Spain and Portugal to our listeners. The acclaimed composer, musician, performer, and professor Elbio Barilari, a faculty member of the University of Illinois at Chicago,  is the host and creative force behind this series. Fiesta! features the hottest Latin-American music from the 16th to the 21st centuries: Silvestre Revueltas, Heitor Villa-Lobos, the power of symphonic tango, the Latin- American Baroque, and classical guitar through the music of Agustin Barrios, Antonio Lauro, and Leo Brouwer.

This Week’s Evening Concerts: April 1 - 4, 2013

This week on the Evening Concert we start with a “A Classical ‘All-Fool’s’ Day” from Illinois Public Media, then it’s off to New York for music of Dvorak and Tchaikovsky; Wednesday night it’s ‘Mexican Orchestral Music’ on “Fiesta!” and Thursday night it’s the premiere of the latest Los Angeles Philharmonic radio series. Friday night it’s Prairie Performances with Roger Cooper.

Tonight we'll have the final episodes in The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center series and the 2012 Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. At 7, it’s Brahms G minor Piano Quartet and at 8 music by Chopin, Debussy, Chick Corea and Leonard Bernstein.

Tonight, it's the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra led by music director Edo de Waart. The program is an eclectic one, featuring Iris Unveiled a work by Chinese composer Qigang Chen, Concerto for Orchestra by Stanislav Skrowaczewski and Brahms’ 3rd Symphony.

This week on The Evening Concert, “East Meets West” in the music of Qigang Chen from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra on Monday. Tuesday, Pinchas Zukerman is the soloist in Brahms’ Violin Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Tonight, guest conductor Gianandrea Noseda leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in excerpts from Romeo and Juliet by Hector Berlioz, and pianist Nicholas Angelich is soloist on Brahms’ 2nd Piano Concerto.
