Beginning at 7 am, host Vincent Trauth draws on such American classics as Appalachian Spring, Rodeo, Sousa marches and Joplin rags. American music continues throughout the day, including Grand Canyon Suite featured on Classics of the Phonograph and Porgy and Bess on Afternoon at the Opera.

In place of the regular show on Friday, we’ll bring you a concert by the Chicago Chamber Musicians, playing the Clarinet Quintet by Brahms, the “Dumky” Trio of Dvorak, and one of Schumann’s Fantasy Pieces. I’ll be back on Monday with a guest from the local music community.

As part of WILL-FM’s all-American July 4th, John features some classic performances of Ferde Grofe’s American classic “The Grand Canyon Suite.” You’ll hear old time recordings from Paul Whiteman’s Concert Orchestra, the ensemble for which it was written, as well as a modern performance with the sounds of a real thunderstorm!
