"Because I Am A Citizen: Religion and the Common Good in Today's America"
Martin E. Marty, Ph.D., Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of the History of Modern Christianity, the Divinity School, University of Chicago
Host: David Inge
The United States is often said to be the world’s most religious nation. At the same time, many Americans say that religion should be a private matter. That makes for a sometimes heated debate on the role of religion in public life. Our guest will be Martin Marty, professor emeritus of the history of modern Christianity at the University of Chicago, and one of this country’s best-known scholars of religion. He will share his thoughts about the intersection of faith and politics, and talk about why there is so much tension between the personal and political when it comes to religion.
