There are approximately 4 million secretaries in the United States. Lyn Peril is one of them. For over 100 years, she says, this work has been called a wonderful career opportunity for woman, and a dead-end. Office work has made it possible for her to write three books, but she still has a hard time talking about her job with any pride. Offices can’t run without them, so why do they get so little respect? We’ll look at the history of the secretarial occupation with Lyn Peril, author of "Swimming in the Steno Pool."
