We welcome back University of Illinois entomologist May Berenbaum for another show about the most abundant life form on this planet, the insect. When May stops by we encourage you to put aside questions of extermination, and instead try to appreciate insects for the many and varied ways they live their lives. If you are curious about a particular insect, give us a call, and a description, and May will try to identify it and tell you something about its habits.

We’ll review the life of an architect who made a great contribution to the built environment of Urbana. You may not know his name, but you should know his buildings: the Champaign County Courthouse, Urbana High School and the Urbana library. His name was Joseph William Royer, and he was active from 1897 to the early 1950s. Our guest will be Brian Adams, the author of a book on Royer and his work.

Blackwell takes us on a tour of some of the world’s most polluted places. That’s the subject of his new book "Visit Sunny Chernobyl."

Back pain is a problem for most people at some point in their lives. It may be caused by a strain or by improper lifting. Lack of regular exercise, stress and smoking can all increase your risk. But paying attention to posture, weight and body mechanics can go along way to minimize back problems. We'll talk about back care with our guest, Dr. James Harms, orthopedic surgeon from the Carle Spine Institute in Urbana.

At the end of 2008, Ford Motor Company was running on empty. In an effort to save the American auto industry, Congress offered a bailout. GM and Chrysler took the money, but Ford decided to save itself. The company did it by hiring an outsider, Alan Mulally. It turned out to be a very good hire. By early 2010, it was clear Ford had pulled off one of the most amazing turnarounds in history. We’ll get the story from our guest, Bryce Hoffman, author of "American Icon: Alan Mulally and the Fight to Save Ford Motor Company."

On college campuses all across the country, the mental health of students is a growing concern. But what do we know about the national student population? How many students today experience depression, or anxiety? How many are taking medication? How well do schools respond to their needs? We’ll explore these and other questions with Ben Locke, from the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services at Penn State University.

Our guest will be Phyllis Wise, chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She came to Illinois last fall from the University of Washington, and we’ll talk about some of the challenges she has faced in her first year at Illinois. She will also share her thoughts on some of the major issues in higher education, including rising tuition costs, declining access, and the challenges of meeting the needs of today’s students.
