The Science of Medication in Treating Mental Illnesses

Psychiatric medications have dramatically changed the treatment of mental illness. But patients don’t always take medication as directed. In fact, researchers say between 30 and 50 percent of people taking these drugs voluntarily, are not taking them correctly. Our guest is Dr. Jerald Kay, Professor and Chair of Psychiatry at Wright State University School of Medicine. We’ll talk about a range of issues, including the potential benefits and potential side effects of these medications.
