The Lost Ark Of The Covenant: Solving The 2,500 Year Old Mystery Of The Fabled Biblical Ark
Tudor Parfitt, Professor of Jewish Studies at London's School of Oriental and African Studies and Fellow of the Oxford Centre of Hebrew and Jewish Studies
According to the biblical account, the Ark of the Covenant held the stone tablets that bore the Ten Commandments. It disappeared from the temple in Jerusalem in 586 BC….and was lost, apparently forever. Over the last 2 thousand years, many scholars and treasure hunters have claimed to know where it was hidden. Now, Professor Tudor Parfitt, from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, believes he has found it.

Getting Ahead or Losing Ground: Economic Mobility in America
Julia B. Isaacs, M.P.P., Child and Family Policy Fellow at The Brookings Institution, and a First Focus Fellow, Washington, DC
For over 200 years, Americans have believed that if they worked hard and drew on their intelligence and skills, they would move up the economic ladder. During this hour of Focus 580 we ask the question: does this mobility really exist? Our guest is Julia Isaacs, Child and Family Policy Fellow at the Brookings Institution. We’ll talk about a recent report that finds the American dream is alive, but frayed. Most people are better off than their parents, but the benefits of economic growth have been uneven, with some winning big and others losing ground.

The "Unofficial St. Patrick's Day" Event and Student Drinking
William Riley, Dean of Students and Associate Vice Chancellor at the University of Illinois
This past weekend, the City of Champaign once again found itself the unwilling host of what promoters have called “the biggest party in the Big 10.” Police report fewer problems connected with this year’s Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day than in past years…although nearly 200 people were ticketed or arrested…most for underage drinking.

Going Broke: Why Americans Can't Hold On To Their Money
Stuart Vyse, an Award-Winning Writer and Professor of Psychology at Connecticut College in New London
In 2005, more than two million Americans declared bankruptcy. Millions more are deeply in debt. Why can’t Americans hold on to their money? We’ll look for some answers this morning on Focus 580 as we talk with psychologist Stewart Vyse. He says that, while we like to blame credit card companies or the poor judgment of consumers…there are many other factors that conspire to empty our pockets. He will report on some new developments in psychology and economics that help explain the epidemic of debt and talk about possible cures.

Cooking: Roasted Vegetables
Doyle Moore, WILL Chef-in-Residence
It’s the first Wednesday of the month, and that means the topic on Focus 580 will be food and the guest will be the man we call our chef-in-residence Doyle Moore. When he stops by we pick a topic - sometimes a particular dish or key ingredient - and exchange stories and recipes. This time around he wants to talk about roasting vegetables. This simple technique brings out their natural sweetness, gives them some crunch, and mellows those that can be a little harsh.
