Rising from the Ashes of Disco
Many consider the 1980’s to early 90’s the golden age of local music in Champaign-Urbana, especially when it comes to rock and roll. On Saturday, April 19th, the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois will be hosting a panel discussion entitled “Rising from the Ashes of Disco: Urbana-Champaign’s Music Scene during the 1980s and Early 1990s.”
Musicians, producers, and others who were part of the scene will talk about not only the musicians and bands, but music venues, recording studios, and record shops that were part of that era.
Illinois Public Media’s Jason Croft recently talked with Scott Schwartz, Archivist for Music and Fine Arts and Director of the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois, about that era of the Champaign-Urbana music scene and why it was so important.
There will be a panel discussion Saturday at 3pm featuring musicians and producers from that era plus those who ran music venues and record stores.
