Part-Time Broadcast Meteorologist Academic Hourly/Grad Hourly/Student Hourly WILL-AM-FM-TV-Online College of Media at Illinois
WILL-AM-FM-TV-Online, the public radio and television stations at the University of Illinois, has an immediate opening for a part-time broadcast meteorologist. This position is primarily for covering weekend evening broadcasts on WILL-TV. The position will also include occasional fill-in shifts for the full-time weather staff on weekdays on WILL Radio and Television. WILL has a strong commitment to providing accurate weather information. Applicants must have some experience in meteorology and weather forecasting. The ability to broadcast on television and radio is required. A college degree is preferred, but we will consider students in Atmospheric Sciences or related majors that can demonstrate the aptitude and ability to perform the duties required.
THE POSITION: This is a part-time academic hourly, grad hourly (graduate students), or student hourly (undergraduate students) position. The successful applicant will produce and present weather broadcasts on WILL-TV and online on weekend evenings, and will occasionally substitute for the full-time members of the WILL weather staff as weekday weather producer and on-air weather anchor on WILL AM-FM-TV-Online. The position will require availability on most Saturday and Sunday evenings between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree is preferred, but students in atmospheric sciences or related fields will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate some knowledge in synoptic/mesoscale meteorology and weather forecasting. Applicants must also audition to demonstrate their ability to present weather information in a professional, unaffected, personable style. In addition, applicants must demonstrate they have an active interest in and knowledge of weather and science-related news. Accurate keyboard skills are required.
WILL staff may consider providing unpaid coaching/tutoring for individuals who demonstrate an aptitude for broadcast meteorology but do not yet possess the skill set required for this position. Although WILL does not have the financial resources to pay for extensive training, all interested individuals are encouraged to apply.
