On the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with two very different pianists. Faye Ballard is a regular top-five finalist at Peoria's Old Time Piano Playing Contest. Ian Hobson is a world-renowned classical pianist teaching at the University of Illinois. Both will play at the Krannert Center in Urbana on Thursday.

In 2003, several friends in the Bloomington area formed a mandolin orchestra modeled on traditional groups of the early 20th century. On the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local," we'll hear members of the McLean County Mandolin Society play for us live in our studio. And I'll talk with pianist Rochelle Sennet of the University of Illinois faculty, in advance of her recital Wednesday night.

Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company's Fifth Annual Kathy Murphy Student Production will be Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, opening June 17. On the Monday edition of "Live and Local," we'll welcome Willy Wonka himself and other cast members for some songs from the show. I'll also talk with harpsichordist William Heiles of the University of Illinois faculty, who performs in Urbana in the evening.

Composer Kyle de Tarnowsky and the Urbana Pops Orchestra

The Urbana Pops Orchestra gives its first concert Saturday at noon at Lincoln Square Village. Along with music from famous films, the program includes a work written for the orchestra by Kyle de Tarnowsky, currently pursuing a film career in Los Angeles. Kyle will be my guest on today's edition, with Urbana Pops conductors Daniel Southerland and Stephen Larson.

Canadian violinist Lara St. John has played with some of the world's great orchestras. She'll play in Peoria this weekend with the Heartland Festival Orchestra, and she'll be my guest on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local." I'll also talk with Springfield physician and percussionist Craig Russo, whose Latin Jazz Project has a CD release party in Urbana Thursday night.

Jazz guitarist LaMonte Parsons will play on the Uncorked series at the Krannert Center in Urbana Thursday, and he'll be my guest on this edition of "Live and Local," playing live in our studio with bassist Josh Houchin. And I talk with trumpeter Ray Sasaki, returning to Champaign-Urbana from Texas, as he occasionally does, to play with friends at the Iron Post tonight.

This week in Urbana, Change of State Performance Project will present the premiere of an interdisciplinary theater piece called "AquaTown: A Future Hydrohistory." On the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local," we'll learn about the project and hear some scenes. And I'll talk with a member of J-108, a vocal jazz ensemble singing at the Normal Farmer's Market Tuesday afternoon. (NOTE: Today's show given here in two audio segments.)

The University of Illinois Summer Harp Class opens June 10, with several recitals scheduled. On the Monday edition of "Live and Local," we'll hear two harpists play for us live in the studio. And I'll talk with John Stephens of the Little Theatre on the Square in Sullivan as it prepares to open the timeless musical "Show Boat."

The 8th Peoria Bach Festival begins on Friday and runs for a week, with multiple events, culminating in the St. Matthew Passion. On the Friday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with Martin Dicke, cantor of Trinity Lutheran Church, which hosts the festival. We'll also hear some scenes from a play by comedian Steve Martin, currently in production at the Station Theatre in Urbana.

Soul Miners Children's Theatre Company intends to blend virtues education and interfaith spirituality with theater arts instruction and performance. On the Thursday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with the company's founders about their current production, Horton the Elephant. We'll also hear some live music for dancing in advance of the Central Illinois English Country Dancers' annual Playford Ball.
