On the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with soprano Kay Welch, coordinator of the July Music Festival at Wesley United Methodist Church in Urbana. Kay and tenor Justin Vickers will share some songs from the festival. And we'll meet Simon Burke of Aduki Jazz, playing several times in Bloomington, Normal and Springfield over the next month.
Live and Local
Prof. Louis Bergonzi has addressed various issues surrounding sexual orientation and music education and last spring co-hosted a three-day symposium on some of those issues at the University of Illinois. Prof. Bergonzi will be my guest on the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local." And I'll talk with trumpeter Brian Choban, whose jazz quintet plays twice in downtown Bloomington this week.
The Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana are, of course, known for baroque music. But on July 18, the BACH Choir will give a concert called "Anything But Bach," or baroque, for that matter. Chester Alwes joins me on the Monday edition of "Live and Local" to discuss the program. And we'll hear from Brian Choban, whose jazz quintet plays in Bloomington this week.

The Illinois Shakespeare Festival got underway last month and continues through August 8. In addition to four plays given in rotation, there's live music and other entertainment nearly every night before the show. We'll hear about all the activities and listen to some live jazz in our studio with Glenn Wilson and George Turner on the Friday edition of "Live and Local.
The Champaign Music Festival happens this weekend, with multiple musical acts and many family activities over two days. Chicago's Dudley Owens Jazz Band will play Friday night, and Mr. Owens will be my guest on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local." I'll also talk with Tamra Gingold, concertmaster of the Urbana Pops Orchestra, playing this Saturday.
"Good Folk at Home" is the name of a mini music festival taking place on July 17 in Longview, Ill. Organized by Bill Thomas - also known as Sirifax - it will feature eight musical acts on one stage in one afternoon. On the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local," we'll have three of those acts play live in one studio in one hour.
Saxophonist Charles Lane is a 2009 graduate of the University of Illinois, now living in Philadelphia. He's in Urbana this week, recording with his Jazz Combo, and they'll play at the Iron Post Wednesday night. Charles joins me on the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local." And we'll hear about some singing doctors who give a show called "Too Loud Daddy.
The Illinois Summer Youth Music program is in its second week at the University of Illinois, with a cello camp, flute camp, double reed camp, junior high bands and orchestras and more. On the Friday edition of "Live and Local," we'll have a sampling of ISYM students perform for us live in our studio.
I'll bet you didn't know that the art of theater was invented by cavemen-actually, a specific caveman. So posits the show called "Ug, The Caveman Musical," now at the Station Theatre in Urbana. We're hear some songs from the show on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local." And, rescheduled from Tuesday, a preview of next season at Sangamon Auditorium in Springfield.
