Tango Buenos Aires has become one of Argentina's great cultural exports, and they'll visit our area twice-Friday night in Springfield and in February in Urbana. I'll talk with Lucrecia Laurel about the show on the Friday edition of "Live and Local." And we'll hear about the Parker Quartet, playing at the Krannert Center in Urbana on Sunday.

The Prairie Ensemble will take its eclectic brand of classical music to the Canopy Club in Urbana Sunday night, where one can enjoy drinks and pizza during the concert. On today's edition of the show, I talk with bassoonist Terry Maher, who is featured in that program in a piece called "Dead Elvis.

On the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with Ann Collins, one of the six stars of this show the New York Times has called "a joyous, slapstick hoe-down.

They are the annual awards presented by the Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company to honor the best of their previous season, and the event happens this Saturday. Manager Mike Galloway will be my guest on the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local" to preview the show.

John and Charles Wesley founded the Methodist Church, while Charles's sons Charles and Samuel and grandson Samuel Sebastian were important English composers of their time. On the Monday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with Nicholas Temperley about his new book, Music and the Wesleys, in advance of a concert of the same name next Sunday in Champaign.

We'll have an extra-special Friday edition of "Live and Local," including a live performance by a wonderful African singer called Somi. She's in town for performances at the Krannert Center. Then I'll talk with Paul Mehling of the Hot Club of San Francisco, who will accompany a set of old silent films at the Doudna Fine Arts Center in Charleston Friday night.

The Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival will present two old-time string bands, the Foghorn Trio and the Dustbusters this Sunday in Urbana, and on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local" I'll talk with two Foghorn band members. And, live in our studio, we'll hear The Palace Flophouse, who play on a multiple-band gig in Champaign on Saturday.

Folk singer Debra Cowan will give an intimate concert here at WILL on Feb. 14, and listeners to Rich Warren's show The Midnight Special on WILL-AM will have an opportunity this Saturday to obtain tickets to that concert. I'll talk with Debra on the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local." We'll also showcase children from the Soul Miners theater project.

On the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local," our sound engineer, Mike Pritchard, steps out from behind the console and into the studio for a live session with his band The Gavin Stolte Project. Mike and Gavin have a long and sordid history making music locally, and the current band mixes many styles, according to their members' varied backgrounds.
