The Doudna Fine Arts Center in Charleston will offer a summer cookout and concert Thursday evening on the Eastern Illinois University campus. The concert will feature the American roots duo Switchback and singer-songwriter Mieka Pauley, winner of numerous awards whose star keeps rising. Ms. Pauley will play for us live on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local.
Fresh off the Fourth of July holiday, the Urbana Pops Orchestra will give the second concert of its summer season this Saturday, entitled "Made in the USA." The program will include Aaron Copland's A Lincoln Portrait, and we'll have a spoken and musical preview on the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Oklahoma!" is one of the great classics of the Broadway stage, and it's given a refreshing update as the current production at the Little Theatre on the Square in Sullivan. On the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local," we'll hear from the man who plays Curly, live in our studio, and we'll also learn about an original children's show being given concurrently at the Little Theatre.
Illinois Summer Youth Music at the University of Illinois is winding up the second of its three one-week sessions. Camps this week feature advanced students working on their individual instruments, with the addition of junior high band and orchestra and the senior high chorus. A number of players from the advanced instrumental camps will join us live on the Friday edition of "Live and Local.
