Community Arts Resource on Their Summer Band Program, plus Preview of Millikin University Jazz Band

Community Arts Resource, based in St. Joseph, has offered its carTunes summer band program since 2009 and will launch its new season next month. They’re looking for new members now, and we’ll hear details, with music planned for the season, on the Friday edition of “Live and Local.” We’ll also preview the new CD by the Millikin University Jazz Band before their performance Saturday in Decatur.

Preview of Women’s Chorus Amasong, plus Live Music from the Quasari String Quartet

The Champaign-Urbana-based women’s chorus Amasong has for many years offered winter and spring concerts, and this year they’ve added a family concert, happening this Saturday in Champaign. Members of Amasong will join me for a live preview on the Thursday edition of “Live and Local.” And we’ll have live music from the Quasari String Quartet, playing in Champaign Thursday night

Ronald Hedlund and Stephen Fiol of Carmen to Camelot, plus Preview of Dixieland

This Saturday the Danville Symphony Orchestra will present a concert called “Carmen to Camelot,” with vocal highlights from Bizet’s opera and from musicals by Lerner and Loewe. Narrator Ronald Hedlund and director Stephen Fiol will talk about the program on the Tuesday edition of “Live and Local.” And we’ll preview a Dixieland concert happening in Lincoln Wednesday night.

Steve Fast Discusses the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts

The Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts began life in 1921 as the Scottish Rite Temple as home for the American Passion Play. Now BCPA has announced its seventh season presenting a mix of concerts, comedy, musicals, children’s shows and more. On the Monday edition of “Live and Local,” I’ll talk with the Center’s Steve Fast about what’s coming.

Pianist Adam Neiman, plus A Live Preview of The Hamlet Thrill-ma-geddon

Pianist Adam Neiman first appeared in our area as a 14-year-old winner of the Stravinsky Awards Competition in 1993. Many triumphs later, he’s back to perform with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra this weekend, and he’ll be my guest on the Thursday edition of “Live and Local.” We’ll also feature a live preview from students at Oakwood High School of The Hamlet Thrill-ma-geddon.

Milton Scott of Opus 24, plus Nelly Motova

The community choir in Decatur called Opus 24 will celebrate its 20th anniversary with its spring concert this Sunday, under the direcdtion of Milton Scott. Milt will join me on the Wednesday edition of “Live and Local.” I’ll talk also with Nelly Matova, director of the Champaign-Urbana-based choral ensemble Cappella Orpheus, who also have a concert on Sunday

Michael Lamb and Angi Chase of Bells in Motion, plus Glenn Block

Handbell choirs have historically played primarily in churches, but a growing number of handbell ensembles go on the road with more secular programs. The Springfield-based Bells in Motion is one such group, and they’ll bring their show to Urbana on Saturday. Retiring director Michael Lamb and long-time ringer Angi Chase will join me on the Tuesday edition of “Live and Local.” I'll also talk with Glenn Block, music director of the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony program, who are giving their spring concert in Springfield Saturday afternoon.
