Len Graham is one of Ireland’s best-known traditional singers, specializing in unaccompanied singing. He and fellow singer Brían Ó hAirt [BREE-an oh-HART] will perform in Urbana Sunday, and they’ll join me on the Friday edition of “Live and Local.” We’ll also have a live preview of a classical violin-and-guitar recital in Springfield on Sunday.

Pianist Adam Neiman first appeared in our area as a 14-year-old winner of the Stravinsky Awards Competition in 1993. Many triumphs later, he’s back to perform with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra this weekend, and he’ll be my guest on the Thursday edition of “Live and Local.” We’ll also feature a live preview from students at Oakwood High School of The Hamlet Thrill-ma-geddon.

The community choir in Decatur called Opus 24 will celebrate its 20th anniversary with its spring concert this Sunday, under the direcdtion of Milton Scott. Milt will join me on the Wednesday edition of “Live and Local.” I’ll talk also with Nelly Matova, director of the Champaign-Urbana-based choral ensemble Cappella Orpheus, who also have a concert on Sunday

Michael Lamb and Angi Chase of Bells in Motion, plus Glenn Block

Handbell choirs have historically played primarily in churches, but a growing number of handbell ensembles go on the road with more secular programs. The Springfield-based Bells in Motion is one such group, and they’ll bring their show to Urbana on Saturday. Retiring director Michael Lamb and long-time ringer Angi Chase will join me on the Tuesday edition of “Live and Local.” I'll also talk with Glenn Block, music director of the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony program, who are giving their spring concert in Springfield Saturday afternoon.

Preview of The Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield, plus Champaign Urbana Ballet’s Coppelia

The Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield happens every two years, with clergy, artists and volunteers coming together to express spirituality through the arts. This year’s festival happens May 5th through 8th, and we’ll have a live preview on the Monday edition of “Live and Local.” We’ll also hear about Champaign Urbana Ballet’s upcoming production, Coppélia.

Members of All-Male Choir Chanticleer, plus actor Henson Keys

The magnificent 12-voice, all-male choir Chanticleer sings a repertoire of astonishing range, from Gregorian chant to contemporary pop. Chanticleer will perform in Urbana Thursday night, and three of their members will join me on the Thursday edition of “Live and Local.” I’ll also talk with actor Henson Keys, who will read Shakespeare on Saturday’s concert in Champaign by The Prairie Ensemble

The CHORALE, based in Champaign-Urbana, will give its annual Young Artist Scholarship Concert Sunday, with guest conductor Craig Jessop, formerly of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Dr. Jessop will join me on the Wednesday edition of “Live and Local.” I’ll also talk with Leah Crews, who will lead a very young chorus called The Singing Redbirds in Normal Thursday night.

Flutist and dancer Zara Lawler and choreographer C. Neil Parsons

Flutist and dancer Zara Lawler and choreographer C. Neil Parsons have created a show called "The Flute on its Feet," currently on a Midwest tour. They'll be in Charleston Monday and Tuesday, and they'll join us on the Monday edition of "Live and Local." We'll also have a live preview of the world premiere of Stephen Taylor's opera Paradises Lost at the University of Illinois.

The Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana, plus the Vermilion Festival Chorus and Danville Light Opera

The Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana had their annual Young Baroque Artists Competition recently, and the Winners Showcase concert happens this Sunday in Champaign. Two of the winners will play for us live on the Friday edition of "Live and Local." And we'll preview shows from two groups in Danville: the Vermilion Festival Chorus and Danville Light Opera.
