Israeli pianist Alon Goldstein; Rhythmic Circus; Fifth House Ensemble

On the Friday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with Israeli pianist Alon Goldstein, who will perform with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Saturday night. We'll also hear about Rhythmic Circus, who bring rapid-fire tap dancing and high-spirited music to Decatur; and Fifth House Ensemble, who give a multi-media chamber music program in Springfield.

Guitarist William Tyler; Centennial High presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

William Tyler lives in Nashville, a town where, he says, "guitarists are as common as television sets and pigeons," but he's carving a niche with an unusual performance style. He'll play in Champaign Friday night, and he'll be my guest on the Friday edition of "Live and Local." We'll also have a live preview of Champaign Centennial High School's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Chicago-based band of Irish musicians Bua

Today I'm rebroadcasting a show that first aired on February 7 of this year, featuring a live performance in our studio of the Chicago-based band of traditional Irish musicians called Bua. They were in town that week to play on the Piper's Hut Concert Series in Urbana.

Prof. Bo Lawergren and harpist Tomoko Sugawara; 2012 DoCha Festival

The Eurasian angular harp-or kugo, as it's known in Japan-first arose in Mesopotamia around 1900 BC. Prof. Bo Lawergren and harpist Tomoko Sugawara will give a MillerComm lecture-demonstration of the instrument at the University of Illinois on Tuesday, and they'll join me live on the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local." We'll also have a preview of the final concert of the 2012 DoCha Festival in Champaign.

Pianist Laurence Hobgood

Pianist Laurence Hobgood has been musical director for vocalist Kurt Elling since 1995, and he's played and recorded with many other jazz greats, including saxophonist Ernie Watts. Together they'll play two shows at the Iron Post in Urbana Wednesday night, and I'm pleased to welcome Mr. Hobgood for a live session on the Monday edition of "Live and Local.

Pianist Bill Payne of Little Feat; DoCha chamber music festival

Pianist Bill Payne is co-founder of the band Little Feat, and he's played with countless other musicians. He's also a writer and photographer, and he'll participate in a multimedia concert event in Urbana Friday night. Bill Payne will play for us live on the Friday edition of "Live and Local." And we'll get a live preview of this year's DoCha chamber music festival, opening Friday in Champaign.

Shozo Sato’s Lady Macbeth: A Kabuki Play; Larry Ochs of the improvisational group Kihnoua

Shozo Sato is a professor emeritus at the University of Illinois, a theater director and a master of Zen arts. He returns to campus to direct Lady Macbeth: A Kabuki Play, and he'll be my guest on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local." I'll also talk with Larry Ochs of the improvisational group Kihnoua, who will perform on Krannert Art Museum's Sudden Sound Series Thursday night.
