Bob McChesney is a research professor in the Institute of Communications Research and the Graduate School of Information and Library Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "The media are central to all our lives," he says. "Yet the media are the most frequently misunderstood parts of our lives. We want to help people understand the role of media in society."

Chris Hedges, columnist for Truthdig

Our guest this week is Chris Hedges. Hedges, who writes a weekly column for Truthdig that is published every Monday, is currently a senior fellow at The Nation Institute and a Lecturer in the Council of the Humanities and the Anschutz Distinguished Fellow at Princeton University. He spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent in Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. He is the author of several books, including War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning and most recently When Atheism Becomes Religion: America's New Fundamentalists.

David Barsamian, host and producer of Alternative Radio

Our guest this week is David Barsamian, host and producer of Alternative Radio-the award-winning, Boulder-based internationally broadcast program. His books include Targeting Iran, Confronting Empire with Eqbal Ahmad and Speaking of Empire & Resistance with Tariq Ali. Barsamian has been to Pakistan several times this year, and has broadcast a series of programs on Pakistan and Afghanistan.


Alternative Radio airs locally on WILL AM, Saturdays at 9pm, and on WEFT FM, Mondays at 6pm and Saturdays at 6am.

Danny Schechter, the News Dissector

Our guest this week is Danny Schechter, the News Dissector. Schechter is editor of MediaChannel.org, and produces a daily blog analyzing the news media.

Schechter is the producer and/or director of numerous film and television documentaries. He has written several books, including The More You Watch, The Less You Know. His latest book is Plunder: Investigating our Economic Calamity and the Subprime Scandal.
