Bob McChesney is a research professor in the Institute of Communications Research and the Graduate School of Information and Library Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "The media are central to all our lives," he says. "Yet the media are the most frequently misunderstood parts of our lives. We want to help people understand the role of media in society."

Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Congresswoman for the 9th district of Illinois
Our guest this week is Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Congresswoman for the 9th district of Illinois. Rep. Schakowsky currently serves in the House Democratic Leadership as Chief Deputy Whip and as a member of the Steering and Policy Committee. She is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. On that Committee, she serves as the Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection and as a member of the Subcommittee on Health and the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Schakowsky was recently named the Chairwoman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
