Dallas Police Chief Says Shooting Suspect Was Upset Over Police Shootings

Dallas Police Chief David Brown says a suspect in the overnight attack that killed five police officers, wounded seven others and wounded two civilians said he was upset over the recent police shootings of black men and wanted to kill white people. The suspect who died in a parking garage has been identified as Micah Xavior Johnson.

Illinois Reacts To The Orlando Nightclub Shooting

Gov. Rauner ordered flags flown at half-staff and a memorial vigil in Chicago drew hundreds of attendees, as Illinois reacted to the shooting inside an Orlando, Florida gay nightclub that left 49 people dead and 53 injured.

The shooting started shortly after 2 a.m, ET, and the situation ended three hours later when police rescued approximately 30 hostages inside the nightclub. This is the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

After video of a white Chicago police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times was released to the public, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel became the focus of intense backlash. He responded by firing Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. In many ways this was history repeating in a city that has had twice as many police chiefs than it’s had mayors in the past six decades — and more than its share of police scandals.

‘Wear Orange’ Group Spreads Message In Champaign

Champaign was one of nearly 200 US cities that took part in National Gun Violence Awareness Day Thursday, wearing orange - and trying to bring attention to the gun violence that some in the area say is at a ‘crisis level.’  Organized by Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America, about 50 attended a rally in Champaign's Westside Park.
