Urbana Mayoral Candidates Debate Crime, Economy

In the first debate for Urbana mayor, the three Democrats - all women - focused on two main themes - crime and policing, as well as business development and taxes. About 60 people filled the Urbana City Building to watch Monday's event organized by the League of Women Voters of Champaign County. The three-way Democratic primary pits incumbent Mayor Laurel Prussing against Alderwoman Diane Marlin and Rev. Evelyn Burnett Underwood.

Actress Debbie Reynolds Dies A Day After Daughter Carrie Fisher’s Death

Actress Debbie Reynolds has died, just one day after the death of her daughter, actress Carrie Fisher, NPR has confirmed. Hours before reports of her death, The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to NPR that an elderly female was transported to Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Reynolds, 84, has had a long and celebrated career as a film actress — she was in the classic "Singing' in the Rain" — a TV star — "The Debbie Reynolds Show" — and a Broadway and Las Vegas star.

Actress Carrie Fisher Dies At Age 60

Actress Carrie Fisher, who found enduring fame as Princess Leia in the original "Star Wars,'' has died. She was 60. Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, released a statement through her spokesman saying
Fisher died Tuesday just before 9 a.m PST. Lourd said her mother was "loved by the word and she will be missed profoundly.''

Encore: The History Of Urbana’s Candlestick Lane

For one east Urbana neighborhood, the Christmas season means more than time with family and exchanging gifts. There’s also a sense of pride up and down the street when it comes to showing off holiday spirit on the front lawn, the porch - and maybe even the roof. Candlestick Lane started in 1963, brought on by a utility company's decorating contest, and is still a local attraction 53 years later.
