McFadden Wins 4th Straight Women’s Wheelchair New York City Marathon

University of Illinois graduate Tatyana McFadden has swept the four major marathons for the fourth straight year by winning the New York City Marathon women's wheelchair race. The 2014 University of Illinois graduate finished Sunday with an unofficial time of 1 hour, 47 minutes, 43 seconds. The U of I's Josh George finished third in the men's wheelchair division.

George Leads Illini To 31-27 Football Win Over Michigan State

Jeff George Jr. threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, the second a 16-yard strike to Sam Mays that gave Illinois a 31-27 win over Michigan State.
 
The win broke a two-game losing streak for the Illini (3-6, 2-4 Big Ten). It also extended the Spartans' misery. Michigan State (2-7, 0-6) has lost seven in a row.

Rantoul Voters To Decide Whether To Dissolve Park District

The Rantoul Park District has struggled to keep its money-losing Brookhill Golf Course going in recent years. Now, a referendum on the November 8th ballot in Rantoul proposes to solve the problem by dissolving the park district.

Six Illini Score Double-Figures in Blowout Exhibition Win

Six Illini scored double-figures as the men's basketball team rolled past the Division II LewisUniversity  Flyers 95-51 Friday night at the University of Illinois State Farm Center, in the second of two pre-season exhibition games.

Cubs Hold Parade, Rally In Front Of 5 Million Fans

The Chicago river was blue from dye and baseball fans in Chicago celebrated the Cubs win in the World Series with a parade. As is the case with every city celebration of a team's win, the streets were lined with fans and at the end players and team management address a large crowd. City officials estimate some 5 million people took part in the parade.

Cubs Win 1st Series Title Since 1908, Beat Indians In Game 7

The wait 'til next year is finally over. The Chicago Cubs are World Series champions. Ending more than a century of flops, futility and frustration, the Cubs won their first title since 1908, outlasting the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in 10 innings of a Game 7 thriller early Thursday. "It happened. It happened. Chicago, it happened," first baseman Anthony Rizzo said. "We did it. We're world champions. I tell ya, we're world champions. I can't believe it."

Cubs Top Indians 9-3, Force Seventh And Deciding Game

The Chicago Cubs have closed out a 9-3 victory over the Indians to force the World Series to Game 7 on Wednesday night in Cleveland. Addison Russell hit a grand slam, Anthony Rizzo had a two-run shot, and Kris Bryant had four hits as the Cubs tied the series with the Cleveland Indians at three games apiece.

Illinois Defeats Washington U. In Exhibition Men’s Basketball

The Illini men's basketball team defeated visiting Washington University of Saint Louis 82-75 in in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

But victory came only after Illinois squandered a 29-point lead in the second half.
