Congresswoman Bustos Not Running For Governor In 2018

Democratic U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos says she won't run for Illinois governor in 2018. In a statement Monday, Bustos says she decided staying in Congress is "the best way for me to continue getting real results for working families across the heartland."

UI Planning Prof: Immigrant Residents In Beardstown ‘Fearful’ Of Deportations

Recent deportation raids targeting undocumented immigrants around the country have raised concerns in the Illinois River community of Beardstown, where a local meatpacking plant has attracted many immigrant workers. University of Illinois planning professor Faranak Miraftab has made a study of Beardstown, and the JBS meatpacking plant there that employs workers from Mexico, West Africa and other places.

Hill’s 21, Lucas Block Help Illini Hold Off Iowa 70-66

Malcolm Hill scored 21 points and hauled down eight rebounds and Illinois held on for a 70-66 win over Iowa on Saturday. The Illini took the lead in the final minutes on a Hill layup and fended off several Iowa chances late to win their second true road game of the season.

Champaign Council To Vote On Final Settlement Involving Rush

The Champaign City Council Tuesday will be asked to approve the last lawsuit settlement involving former city police officer Matt Rush – who the city permanently terminated a month ago Friday. Three previous excessive force lawsuit settlements involving Rush totaled $320,000. The last, for $250,000, involves a lawsuit filed by Precious Jackson against Rush and two other officers – regarding her arrest in May 2014.
