Arthur Man Revives Zoo Plans With Rockome Gardens Purchase

James Aikman's plans for a wildlife park in Moultrie County were thwarted over the concerns of landowners.  But Aikman announced Tuesday that he's purchased the former Rockome Gardens family tourist site near Arcola with hopes of opening there by May 2016.

UPDATED: Champaign City Council Endorses Clinton Landfill Consent Decree

On a 6 to 2 vote Tuesday night, the Champaign City Council joined Tuscola, Monticello and the McLean County Board in approving an agreement meant to keep new hazardous waste out of the Clinton Landfill. But critics said the proposed consent decree lets the landfill off too easily.

U of I Comptroller Notes New Healthcare Costs in 2016

The University of Illinois could spend up to $1.6 million in its next operating budget on healthcare coverage for some 2,300 contingent or temporary university employees; their coverage will be required under the Affordable Care Act beginning in 2016.

Tim Beckman's firing is just the latest crisis to affect University of Illinois athletics. The university faces lawsuits and allegations of mistreatment in two other sports on the Urbana campus. Murray Sperber teaches in the Cultural Studies of Sport in Education program at U-C Berkley.
