University Presidents Say Schools Hurting Without Budget

Illinois' nine public university presidents say in a letter to Gov. Bruce Rauner and legislative leaders that a failure to approve a budget soon could leave higher education damaged beyond repair.

Roller Derby Team Leases Champaign’s McKinley Building

The Twin City Derby Girls now has secured a downtown Champaign site for its future practices and bouts - but it will take about $20,000 and some construction work.  Last month, the roller derby team secured a 3-year lease for the former McKinley YMCA building on Church Street.

What Ending Parking Minimums Means To Champaign’s Campustown

Champaign city leaders have removed a requirement that apartments in the Campustown neighborhood provide parking.  While developers are still expected to provide some space for cars, goals of the ordinance include less cars on campus, a more urban design, and giving developers the freedom to build the structures they want.

Durbin: Too Early To Predict GOP Presidential Nominee

Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says the country needs to wait until early March, after few caucuses and primaries, to get a true sense of who the Republican nominee will be for president.  He says early February's Iowa Caucuses and New Hampshire primary aren't enough to gain a complete picture.

Killeen: Continue Advocating For Universities During Impasse

University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen says he and other university leaders have to remain stoic over the next month or two as the state's budget stalemate continues.  Killeen says he's particularly concerned about operational and reputational damage to the university.
