In Rare Debate Footage, Seeds Of Modern Politics

On Monday night, Americans sat down to watch one of the most anticipated presidential debates in the country's history. It happens to fall on the anniversary of the first and most famous presidential debate -- between Nixon and Kennedy in 1960. But that was not the first time two presidential candidates went before T-V cameras together.

Gill Denied By U.S. Supreme Court In Bid For 13th District

The country's high court has denied David Gill a place on the November 8 ballot as an independent candidate in Illinois' 13th Congressional District. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan denied the physician's request Monday. Gill says he plans to appeal to a different justice.

Five People Shot, One Killed, After Shooting Near U Of I Campus

Authorities say five people were shot, one of them fatally, in two separate overnight shootings within minutes of each other near the University of Illinois Campus. Police say in a news release that they believe the two shootings may be related. The person who died is identified as George Korchev of Mundelein. The other three were taken to a hospital for treatment of what police called non-critical gunshot wounds.

Student Groups Address ‘Rape Culture’ On U Of I Campus

About 80 University of Illinois students attended a rally on the Urbana campus quad Friday, as student groups addressed "a society of rape culture", not only in the number of reported sexual assaults, but in overall attitudes. Groups represented included Students Against Sexual Assault, the Women's Resource Center, and Black Students for Revolution.

Gill Appeals To the U.S. Supreme Court

Bloomington physician David Gill has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court with hopes of restoring his name to the ballot in the race for Illinois' 13th Congressional District. He wants justices to vacate the stay entered by a federal appeals court that forced his name from the November 8 ballot. The four-time Democratic candidate for the office is running as an independent for the first time.
