Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday rejected a bill to expand gambling in Illinois, including new land-based casinos in Danville and Chicago, saying the proposal lacked sufficient regulatory oversight.

Drought Renews Focus on Ethanol Mandate

The federal government is mandated to dedicate a certain amount of the nation’s corn every year for ethanol production. Some Illinois lawmakers say the Environmental Protection Agency should lower that amount this year because of the devastating drought that has decimated corn crops.

Illinois Republicans Unfazed by Storm Delay at National Convention

Tropical Storm Isaac has dismantled Illinois Republicans' convention plans. With national convention events cancelled, they will no longer spend Monday nominating Mitt Romney as their candidate for president. That leaves an opportunity for them to focus on state politics.

Fire Damages Champaign Restaurant

Taffie’s restaurant in Champaign is closed until further notice. The Champaign Fire Department says they put out a fire in the kitchen of the restaurant at 301 South Mattis Avenue Sunday night during the 10 o’clock hour.
