Immigration Policy Enlists Help of Local Police

Some local law enforcement agencies hold non-citizen prisoners on behalf of federal immigration officials. That gives immigration officials time to decide if the prisoner should be transferred to a detention facility and possibly deported. The agreement is designed to help crack down on hardened criminals, but there are concerns that it may go too far.

After four years of discussing how to best publicize restaurant health inspection results, board of health members from Champaign County and the public health district have decided to move forward on a proposed color-code system that would require restaurants to disclose food inspection results.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has stepped into the 13th District congressional race in Illinois ….endorsing Republican Rodney Davis for the seat. Chamber officials were on hand Tuesday at news conferences around the district, in which Davis released a jobs plan.

Big Development Leaves a Gap in Champaign-Urbana

One marker of the economic slow-down in Champaign-Urbana was when the big development projects stopped. Development has never completely stopped in Champaign-Urbana. But announcements of the really big projects --- ones that expand the borders of the two cities --- pretty much came to an end with the bursting of the housing bubble.
