Illini Start Sports Hall Of Fame, Dick Butkus In 1st Class

The University of Illinois is forming the school's first Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame and a member of its first class will be former Chicago Bears great Dick Butkus. He was named as the Hall's first inaugural member Thursday. An induction ceremony planned in Champaign-Urbana for next September.

Kirk Backs Off Write-In Vote For Petraeus

For months, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk said he would write-in former CIA Director David Petraeus for president. This week, Kirk backed off that stance.

In an interview for Chicago public radio station WBEZ, Kirk praised Petraeus’ military record but refused to confirm he would vote for him. Kirk, R-Highland Park, also reiterated his frustration with Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Senator Bennett Faces First Election In 52nd District

This fall marks the first time Democrat Scott Bennett has campaigned for his Illinois Senate seat. The former prosecutor, who was appointed to the seat, faces Republican Urbana Alderman Mike Madigan on November 8. He says Governor Bruce Rauner needs to make more concessions from his 'Turnaround Agenda' as budget negotiations continue.

Cubs Top Cleveland 5-1; World Series Tied At One Game Apiece

Jake Arrieta took a no-hitter into the 6th inning, and Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 in his second game back with the Cubs in Wednesday's 5-1 victory in Cleveland. It was the Cubs' first World Series victory since game 6 of the 1945 World Series againt Detroit. The series now heads to Wrigley Field for game 3 on Friday night.

Lake Michigan is experiencing high water levels, bad news for some residents along the western shore.  Huge chunks of the shoreline are eroding, and dozens of Wisconsin homeowners are watching their property disappear at alarming rates.
