Illinois Medicaid Applicants Face Long Wait for Benefits

State is Swamped by Applications, Delaying Coverage for Months

The Affordable Care Act expanded eligibility for Medicaid. The number of applicants for the program in Illinois since late 2013 has overwhelmed state employees --- meaning the wait for Medicaid benefits to begin can take months.

Many consider the 1980’s to early 90’s the golden age of local music in Champaign-Urbana, especially when it comes to rock and roll.  On Saturday, April 19th, the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois will be hosting a panel discussion entitled “Rising from the Ashes of Disco: Urbana-Champaign’s Music Scene during the 1980s and Early 1990s.”

Finding Help For Children With Mental Illness

A picture drawn by Andrew about four years ago after he was diagnosed with a mental illness. His mom, Violet, says this was how he felt at the time, as being in turmoil.

Federal data shows that a smaller percentage of children in the state in need of mental health care get it compared to the national average. Health care professionals say part of the reason for that is a lack of resources, and parents not knowing where to turn for help.
