Rauner, On The (Ad?) Attack

Rauner, a Republican, is in a battle of wills and political might with Democratic leadership: House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton.  They're at odds over the budget, business practices, union rights and more, and it's been widely reported that Rauner is planning to once again win over the public using the strategy that helped him get elected, TV commercials.

Proposed Urbana Budget Cuts Spending And Staff

The city of Urbana plans to cut half a million dollars in spending and eliminate five full-time positions under a proposed budget for the coming fiscal year. The spending plan will be presented Monday night to the full city council.

Last Living World Series Cub Player Dies at 98

Len Merullo played shortstop for the Cubs for seven seasons, including the 1945 World Series team that lost to Detroit in 7 games.  He had returned to Wrigley Field last year to be part of the ballpark's 100th anniversary festivities.

AAUP Committee Formally Recommends U of I Censure

The university came under scrutiny last year after rescinding a job offer for Professor Steven Salaita after he posted a series of anti-Israel tweets.
