New UI Urbana Chancellor Jones Introduced On Campus

New University of Illinois Urbana Chancellor Robert Jones had his first opportunity to meet the public Wednesday, addressing a crowd at the Illini Union.  He'll start his new job in early October, and plans to do a 'listening and learning tour' in the first 100 days in his new job.

Judge Blocks Illinois Redistricting Plan From Ballot

A judge has ruled that a voter referendum seeking to change the way Illinois draws its political boundaries is unconstitutional for the November ballot. It's the second time that such an attempt has been blocked in the courts. In both instances, a lawsuit brought by an attorney linked to top Democrats argued that it didn't meet constitutional muster.

Cong. Davis: GMO Labeling Measure Was Best Solution

Republican Congressman Rodney Davis of Taylorville said he reluctatly supported a GMO food labeling measure as the clock winded down on Congress last week. This measure, which President Obama is expected to sign, would pre-empt other state laws, including one out of Vermont that Davis calls 'unscientifically based', and meant solely to boost the state's economy.

Robert J. Jones Named New Chancellor For U Of I Urbana Campus

University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen has named Robert J. Jones to be the new chancellor for the University's Urbana campus, and vice-president of the three-campus U of I system.  He will become the first African-American to hold the post of chancellor in Urbana.

Durbin Slams GOP For ‘Politicizing’ Zika Virus Funding

Illinois Democratic U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says Republican members of the House 'blew it' by adding provisions to a measure to research the Zika Virus that Democratic members couldn't support. That's after a bipartisan Senate agreement to approve $1.1 billion in emergency Zika funding. Congress adjourned until after Labor Day without approving the plan.
