Arrests Made in Danville Shooting Deaths

Two Danville men have been arrested on consecutive days tied to shooting deaths on the city’s east side.  

The two incidents - one in April, the other in May - occurred within a few blocks of one another. 

Police Friday morning announced the arrest of Kevin Marshall, 23, who was picked up at noon Thursday within blocks of where the shooting occurred. 

He’s held without bond – charged with three counts of first degree murder in the May 21st death of Latifah Cross, 21, of Danville. 

But Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said the investigation is ongoing, and other arrests have not been ruled out.

Marshall’s arrest comes a day after the arrest of Robert Butler, 30, picked up at 2 p.m. Wednesday in connection to the April 13th death Jamal Sampson. 26, of Danville.  Butler is also being held without bond, charged with three counts of first degree murder. 

Vermilion County Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Donahue said police stepped up patrols for the summer, but not necessarily in one area.

“These incidents do go in cycles," he said.  "We’ll go for long periods of time without any difficulty at all.  And then we’ll have some shootings come up.  But I wouldn’t want to label any side of town in a particular way.”

Both men arrested are expected in court on Monday.
