Bennett Is New GOP Candidate For IL House 106th Seat

Tom Bennett of Gibson City is the new Republican candidate for Illinois House in the 106th District.

GOP chairmen in the district chose Bennett on Sunday to replace Josh Harms, who announced earlier this summer that he was dropping his re-election bid. Bennett chairs the Ford County Republican Party, which announced his selection on its Facebook page.

Bennett finished 2nd behind Harms in the 2012 GOP primary for the House seat. He chairs the Parkland College Board of Trustees, and works for State Farm Insurance as an information technology manager.

Bennett’s Democratic opponent is Watseka City Councilman William Nutter.

The 106th Illinois House District includes all of Ford and Iroquois Counties and parts of Vermilion, Livingston and Woodford Counties.
