Coroner ID’s Victim in Urbana Homicide

 

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has identified the victim in Friday's homicide near the University of Illinois campus.   

Megchen Huang, 25, was a U of I student and Foreign National from China.  She was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. Friday. 

Details have not been released about how Huang died.  An autopsy will be performed, and an inquest may be held at a later date.

Yesterday, police apprehended Yongfei Ci, 29, of Urbana, who is also a University of Illinois student. 

Authorities allege Ci had forced his way into the North Lincoln Avenue apartment and detained the two females inside.  A female who had been secured in the bathroom fled when the suspect left the apartment, reporting the incident to police.  Ci contacted authorities from a Champaign motel, indicating he would surrender to police.  

Urbana Police and the coroner's office are being assisted by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and Champaign County State's Attorney's Office.
