Ill. Concealed-Carry Permits Could Come In March

Illinois State Police say the first applicants for concealed-carry firearm permits in the state could have those permits by the middle of March.

State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond tells the Daily Herald that it's a possibility that some permits could be issued "after the first couple weeks in March.''

Meanwhile, figures released Thursday show less than 1 percent of the applications in Illinois have been challenged.

Local police departments can object to an application when they believe applicants pose a public threat.
 
The Chicago Sun-Times reports a state licensing board will consider about 230 objections filed by police. The board includes a former judge, two former prosecutors, three former FBI agents and a psychiatry professor.
