Jimmy John’s Reportedly Moving Part of Operations

Story by Jeff Bossert

There are printed reports this week about the future of Jimmy John’s sandwich chain in Illinois.

Crain’s Chicago Business reported Thursday that owner Jimmy John Liautaud plans to move the licensing division of his Champaign-based business out of Illinois, and into Florida.

But if and when that would happen is unclear.  Liautaud told a business conference in Chicago earlier this month that ‘we’ll probably be out of Illinois in the next two to four years’, re-locating to either Indiana, or Austin, Texas.

But Liataud declined comment when contacted by Crain’s Thursday, and company spokeswoman Mary Trader says no statement is being issued right now.

Liautaud had threatened to move the business to Florida in early 2011, citing higher corporate taxes in Illinois.
